We Are Starting to Realise That Networking Is Important

As a small business creating spiritual guidance books and handmade items, we are starting to realise just how important networking truly is.

When we first began, our focus was simply on creating meaningful work. We spent our time writing, designing and building something that reflected our passion and values. Like many small businesses, we believed that hard work and dedication alone would naturally bring people towards what we had created.

Over time, however, we are beginning to understand that building a business is not only about what you create — it is also about the connections you make along the way.

Networking used to feel intimidating and, at times, unnecessary. We thought it was mostly about sales pitches and self-promotion. What we are learning instead is that networking is really about relationships, community and genuine human connection.

For spiritual guidance writers and handmade businesses especially, connection matters. People are often drawn not only to the products themselves, but also to the story, intention and people behind them. By speaking with others, attending events, joining communities and sharing experiences, we are slowly finding our place amongst like-minded people.

Networking has also shown us the importance of support. Running a small business can sometimes feel isolating, particularly when much of your work is creative and personal. Connecting with fellow creators, writers and business owners reminds us that we are not alone in the challenges we face.

Another lesson we are learning is that networking is not about competition. There is space for everyone to grow, create and succeed in their own way. Supporting others often leads to support in return, and genuine relationships are far more valuable than simply trying to gain attention.

We are still learning and growing, but one thing is becoming increasingly clear: networking is an important part of building not only a business, but also a community around what you do.

Sometimes the most meaningful opportunities begin with a simple conversation.
